The Oregon State baseball team will enter the 2014 NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 National Seed, the NCAA selection committee announced Monday morning. The seeding is the highest ever for the Beavers, who were the No. 8 national seed in 2005 and No. 3 last season. Oregon State is the No. 1 club at the Corvallis Regional, which opens play Friday at Goss Stadium. Oregon State will also host No. 2 UNLV, No. 3 UC Irvine and No. 4 North Dakota State.

Oregon will open the NCAA baseball tournament in the Nashville, TN Regional hosted by Vanderbilt. The Ducks (42-18, 18-12 Pac-12), are the No. 2 seed after finishing fourth in the Pac-12 this season. Oregon will face No. 3 seed Clemson Friday at 10 a.m. Vanderbilt and Xavier meet in the other opening game.

Oregon State’s Michele Turney was officially added to the NCAA Division I West Preliminary Track and Field Championships in the triple jump, the NCAA announced late Monday. The sophomore will join teammates Kinsey Gomez (10K) and Melissa Ausman (discus) at the meet from May 29-31 at the University of Arkansas’ John McDonnell Field. Turney earned her entry by way of the 40’ 4.75” mark she posted to finish seventh at the Pac-12 Track and Field Championships in Pullman, Wash. on May 18. For the fifth straight season, the country has been split into two regions – East and West – with the top 48 athletes (24 relays) in each region qualifying for the Preliminary Round. The East Preliminary is being held in Fayetteville, Ark., with the East Preliminary taking place at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. The top 12 finishers in each event at the regional rounds will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 11-14.
