Rear-ended
No one was injured when an SUV rear-ended a commercial tractor hauling two trailers in the Bunker Hill area of Coos Bay, Jan. 6, 6:06 p.m.  According to an Oregon State Police report, the trailer was not damaged at Edwards St. and State Route 241 (Coos River Hwy.).  However, the green GMC Jimmy had extensive front-end damage and was towed.  The driver of th SUV, 43-year old Joseph Patrick Gayewski, Coos Bay, was cited for DWS-Viloation and Careless Driving.

Meth
The driver was slow to pull over when an Oregon State Police Trooper attempted to stop the silver/aluminum Dodge Neon on Hwy. 101 and Flanagan Ave. in Coos Bay Jan. 6, 10:51 p.m.  According to an OSP report, when the trooper approached 58-year old Jeffrey Wade Sanders, North Bend, he “observed the driver’s lap to be covered in crystal meth.  The driver admitted to tearing the bag and trying to discard the drugs before he stopped.  The meth was seized,” and Sanders was cited for PCS – Meth and DWS-Violation.

DUII
A 31-year old Myrtle Point male faces a variety of charges after a red 1997 GMC pickup truck was found off the Powers Hwy. (SR 242), at milepost 13.5, Jan. 9, 1:59 p.m.  According to an OSP report, the vehicle struck a rock embankment and a highway sign before coming to rest.  “A witness reported the operator seemed impaired and the two occupants were trying to leave the scene.  When law enforcement arrived, the occupants were gone.”  One of the vehicle’s registered owners arrived on the scene, but claimed to know nothing of who was driving, but made statements to indicate otherwise.  The second registered owner was suspected of driving.” While en route to the second owner’s residence, ODOT employees at the crash scene reported the second owner returned, but then left in a black pickup truck.  The pickup truck was located and a traffic stop conducted in Broadbent.  Conrrado Rodriguez Estrada was transported to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille where he failed a Field Sobriety Test.  He was charged with DUII, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering Person, Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver in accident with property damage and No Operator’s License.  The other owner, 55-year old Felicitas Palmas Sanchz, Myrtle Point, was cited for Permit Unlawful Operation of Vehicle.

Warrant arrest
A records check of an eastbound vehicle that passed an Oregon State Police Trooper on Hwy. 38, milepost 8, Jan. 11, 11:20 a.m., revealed an outstanding felony warrant for the registered owner of the vehicle.  According to an OSP report, the trooper turned around and pursued the vehicle.  The maroon-colored Ford F15 was contacted at milepost 22.5 and a traffic stop initiated.  Forty-eight year old Ted Joe Sherman, Blue River, OR, was taken into custody and transported to the Reedsport Jail.

Impounded
A green Ford CP was stopped Jan. 12, 5:48 p.m. at Hwy. 101 and Teakwood in Coos Bay for defective lighting.  According to an OSP report, it was “learned that the driver was and had been DWS-Violation for a long period of time.  The driver had no insurance on the vehicle and could not even prove ownership of the vehicle.”  Twenty-year old Christopher Andrew Postlethwait, Coos Bay, “denied he owned the vehicle but rather his girlfriend.”  Thirty-six year old Natasha Lawton, Coos Bay, arrived on the scene.  Postlethwait claimed “that he had to drive because he had a court appearance he needed to be at.”  Lawton claimed that she “needed the help of the operator to ge the vehicle to her residence.  It was clear ti ne that the operator or his girlfriend were not being honest.  Because the operator had a long history of driving while suspended and driving without insurance, I felt it was the safest option for the motoring public to seize the vehicle.”
