Airborne
A dark blue Honda Accord went airborne during a single-vehicle accident on the Coos River Hwy. (SR 241), May 12, 3:03 p.m.  According to an Oregon State Police report, 30-year old Aimee Lee Cook, Coos Bay, was southbound when the vehicle entered a ditch, struck a boulder, continued southbound, the driver attempted to re-enter the roadway, but the vehicle became airborne, rotated, landed on its top, slid upside down and finally came to rest in the northbound lane.  There were two female juvenile passengers.  The driver and one of the passengers were injured, transported by ambulance to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay, while the third passenger was transported to BAH by a family member.  No citations were issued.

DUII Motorcycle
A 52-year old Reedsport male was life flighted to a hospital in Springfield May 13, 12:46 a.m., following a motorcycle accident on Hwy. 101, near Booth Road, north of Gardiner.  According to an OSP report, Vernon Lee Runner was southbound on a black Yamaha motorcycle when he lost control and was ejected.  He suffered non-life threatening injuries.  His medical BAC was determined to by 0.18%.  “Operator admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the crash and stated that he had no memory of the crash.”  Charges of DUII and Reckless Driving will be referred to the Douglas County DA’s Office.

Offensive Littering
The call to police was about an alleged assault on May 13, 9:44 p.m., on the 200 block of So. 8th St. in Lakeside.  However, it turned out to be an arrest for Offensive Littering.  According to an OSP report, “subject reported per 911 that he had been assaulted, but he left the area prior to being contacted by medical personnel.  A second reporting party called 911 in reference to the same event, and was determined to be the other involved party.  When contacted, the initial reporting party was determined to have a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest.  The warrant was confirmed and he was placed in custody.  Several potential witnesses were contacted and only one admitted witnessing the altercation.  The initial reporting party was claiming to be injured and was transported to CVH and medically cleared before being transported to CCJ and lodged.  The event will be referred to the Coos County District Attorney for determination.”  Sixty-four year old Michael Ray Digby, Ophir, charged with Offensive Littering.

In Excess of 100 mph
A vehicle pursuit, with speeds in excess of 100 mph on the Coos River Hwy., ended with an arrest in Eastside, May 14, 4:42 p.m.  According to an OSP report, the black Mazda 3, was nearly involved in a head-on collision at the top of the Catching Slough Bridge.  “The suspect vehicle was last seen cresting the bridge as it continued into the Eastside area.  Pursuit was terminated in the interest of public safety.  Suspect vehicle continued driving in a reckless manner and was followed by witnesses that later positively ID’d the driver & the vehicle.”  Twenty-two year old Cody Ray Ring, Coos Bay, was located and confessed.  He was charged with Probation Violation Detainer, Attempt to Elude, three-counts of Reckless Endangering, and Reckless Driving.  Ring was also cited for VBR and No Valid Operator’s License.  He was transported to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille.

Assault
While checking a possible disabled motorist on Hwy. 101 at Booth Road, north of Gardiner, May 17, 12:51 a.m., an Oregon State Police trooper “discovered a victim of a domestic assault sleeping in her vehicle.”  According to an OSP report, an investigation led to a probable cause arrest of 57-year old Joseph Scott Felker, McMinnville on charges of Assault IV Domestic – Felony, Harassment, Reckless Endangering, Disorderly Conduct, DWS-Misdemeanor, and a Probation Violation Detainer from Yamhill County Parole & Probation.  “Prior to my arrival, Mr. Felker had walked away from the vehicle and was last seen walking southbound on US HWY 101.”  Law enforcement was unable to locate the suspect.  The 56-year old victim was transported to her son’s residence in Coos Bay.  “The case remains under investigation.”
