OSP Fish and Wildlife Trooper in Newport Receives Award from State Marine Board, Nov. 14

Oregon State Police (OSP) Trooper Heather Van Meter, 41, was honored recently during the Annual Post Season Law Enforcement Conference in Bend by the Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB). Van Meter, a 7-year-veteran of the Oregon State Police, has served in the agencies Fish and Wildlife Division since the date of her hire. Van Meter was honored for her contributions to the revision of Oregon’s Outfitter and Guide laws. Her attention to detail help OSMB staff resolve rule inconsistencies for fishing guides and charter boats operating in Oregon. Several of the rules that went into effect in January are as a result of her efforts. Sergeant Todd Thompson supervises the Newport Fish and Wildlife Team where Van Meter works. “Heather is a big contributor to the team; she’s tenacious and always follows through,” Thompson said. When asked why Van Meter was selected to receive the award Thompson added, “She recognized shortcomings in the existing rules and reached out to area guides and charter vessels, then followed up with the Marine Board to help resolve the matter.” More details on the ceremony can be found by visiting the OSMB page at: http://www.oregon.gov/OSMB/news/2014/2014LESigContributionAwdsRel.pdf
