On March 11, 2017, at about 1:29 a.m., an unknown color vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 5, at milepost 268, drifted off the right shoulder and crashed into a parked Oregon State Police marked Ford Explorer. The OSP Sergeant had to jump back into his car to avoid being hit. The vehicle continued northbound and the OSP Sergeant was unable to pursue the suspect vehicle. Evidence at the scene indicates that the suspect vehicle is a 2000-2005, with a faded red color, Chevy Astro Van, with right front headlight and quarter panel damage. The OSP Sergeant was parked on the shoulder, waiting and attempting to locate two unrelated vehicles that were reported to be speed racing in the area, when the OSP vehicle was struck.
