OSSA Exec Guilty of Theft, Nov. 25

The Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association (OSSA) conducted an annual financial review in early 2019 and discovered inappropriate expenditures by former Executive Director John Bishop. Following a more detailed records examination, OSSA reported the matter to the Oregon Department of Justice who conducted a criminal investigation resulting in charges. On Friday, November 22, in Marion County Circuit Court, Bishop pled guilty to Theft in the First Degree and received a sentence of: 24 months probation, 180 hours of community service, restitution to OSSA in the amount of thirteen thousand dollars, and revocation of his Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, law enforcement officer certification.
