OSU release – About The 2023 Season – Oregon State finished the 2023 season with a 41-20 record, including an 18-12 mark in Pac-12 Conference play. The Beavers advanced to an NCAA Regional for the sixth consecutive season, finishing with a 2-2 record in Baton Rouge. All-American Honors – Second baseman Travis Bazzana was named an All-American by multiple organizations. Those honors came on the heels of a Freshman All-American campaign for the Sydney, Australia native in 2022. Gavin Turley, meanwhile, was named a Freshman All-American after leading the Beavers with 14 home runs. Home Run Record Demolished – Oregon State hit a school-record 89 home runs, easily breaking the previous record of 67 in 2018. Five different Beavers hit at least 10, led by Gavin Turley’s 14. The Beavers’ 89 home runs ranked fourth in the Pac-12 Conference. Walks, Walks, Walks – Oregon State led the Pac-12 in bases on balls for the third consecutive season. The Beavers drew 373 as a team, which also ranked sixth in the nation. Forty Or More – Oregon State eclipsed the 40-win mark for the second consecutive season and ninth time in program history, all coming since 2005. Mitch Canham, the Pat Casey Head Baseball Coach, has been a player or coach for the Beavers in five of those nine seasons. On Fielding – The Beavers finished with a .982 fielding percentage for the third consecutive season, which is tied for the program’s single-season record. The 2023 Beavers led the Pac-12 in fielding percentage and tied for fourth nationally, just behind Oral Roberts and Kentucky, which each posted a .984 mark. Looking At Pac-12 Play – Oregon State finished with an 18-12 record in Pac-12 Conference play, finishing second to title-winner Stanford. The Beavers started Pac-12 play with a 1-5 record and proceeded to go 17-7 over its last 24. OSU went 10-2 at home over that stretch. Leading The West Coast – Oregon State again led the West Coast in attendance, drawing an average of 3,568 fans per home date in 2023. That number ranked 23rd in the nation. Oregon State filled Goss Stadium to a 99.47 percent capacity, and was one of just 10 teams to eclipse 90 percent. Overall, Oregon State finished with 103,740 fans through the gates at Goss, 25th nationally. That also ranked first in the Pac-12 and on the West Coast. Bazzana’s Record – Second baseman Travis Bazzana smashed the Oregon State single-season stolen-base record, swiping 36 in 2023. He surpassed Dave Brundage’s 29 in 1986. Bazzana was 36-for-39 (.923) in attempts, and led the Pac-12. Bazzana finished in a tie for 10th nationally. Speaking Of Steals – OSU, as a team, tallied 89 stolen bases, in 101 attempts, which led the Pac-12. Oregon State’s 89 stolen bases ranked 52nd nationally.
