Oregon State University Marine Initiative Studies students will soon have housing available to them on the Central Coast near the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center on Newport’s South Beach. The Corvallis-based college has announced plans to build housing for up to 160-students by the Summer of 2021. That would be the first phase of the project according to college officials. Housing would be built on five-acres of OSU-owned property near the campus of Oregon Coast Community College also in South Beach. The Marine Studies Initiative is a university-wide effort to address ocean health and coastal challenges by creating a global education and research program. The OSU goal is to educate a total of 300 to 500 students at Newport in the course of a year.
