Oregon State has hired Gary Andersen, one of the most respected names in college football, as its new football coach, Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis announced Wednesday. Andersen, who led Wisconsin to the Big Ten Conference’s West Division title and a berth in the conference’s championship game in 2014, will be introduced at 1:30 p.m. Friday at a news conference at the Valley Football Center. Andersen is 30-9 in his last three years as a head coach, highlighted by an 11-win season at Utah State in 2012 and a 10-win season at Wisconsin this fall. He is 49-38 overall in seven years as a head coach and has posted four consecutive winning seasons. He has an 8-2 bowl-game record as an assistant or head coach, and was 2-0 in BCS bowls as an assistant.
OSU Announces Valley Center Expansion Plans
Building on a 15-year plan to improve its athletic and educational facilities for student-athletes, Oregon State University has announced a $42 million project to expand and renovate the Valley Football Center. The Valley Football Center expansion and renovation plan calls for the addition of 55,000 square feet to benefit student-athletes, the football program and all OSU athletic programs, which serve more than 500 student-athletes participating in 17 sports. Mike Goodwin, president and CEO of the Oregon State University Foundation, said that anonymous gifts totaling $25 million have been secured for the project. The foundation will lead the effort to raise the $17 million balance to fund the expansion. The project is one of several fund-raising initiatives the foundation will launch in the coming months to continue the momentum of the highly successful $1.1 billion Campaign for OSU.
