Both Oregon and Oregon State had successful openers to the 2023 college football season. The Ducks on Saturday dismantled visiting Portland State 81-7, while Oregon State traveled to San Jose State on Sunday and won 42-17. Oregon (1-0) goes to Lubbock, TX Saturday for a 4 p.m. game against Texas Tech on Fox. Oregon State (1-0) hosts UC Davis Saturday, 6p.m., Corvallis, Pac-12 Networks.

Oregon’s volleyball team swept through the San Diego State Invitational with three wins. On Thursday, Oregon downed San Diego State 3-1, Friday beat UC Santa Barbara 3-0 and then capped it with a 3-0 win over Pepperdine on Saturday. The Ducks (6-0) are in the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge Friday at Stanford against Minnesota, 4:30 p.m., Pac-12 Networks. In the Asics Invitational, OSU beat Oklahoma 3-0 at Corvallis Friday, and then downed Boise State 3-0 at home Sunday. The Beavers (3-2) participate in the CBU/UCR Invitational at Riverside, CA Friday, Sept. 8, opening against Nevada, 11 a.m.

Oregon’s women fell 1-0 to Grand Canyon in a non-conference soccer match at Phoenix, AZ Sunday. The Ducks (0-4-1) are scheduled to host California Baptist Thursday, Sept. 7, 7 p.m., Pac-12 Oregon. Oregon State’s women tied visiting Portland 1-1 Sunday at Corvallis. The Beavers (2-2-1) host UC Irvine, Thursday, Sept. 7, 5 p.m., Pac-12 Networks. Oregon State’s men bettered visiting Utah Valley 4-1 Friday at Corvallis. The Beavers (2-1) play at Santa Clara, Monday, Sept. 4, 4 p.m., ESPN+.

UO release – McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Katie Clute and Elliott Cook ran to individual titles Thursday morning at the season-opening Linfield Harrier Classic. The Ducks combined for five top-five individual efforts with both squads posting runner-up finishes in the team standings. Oregon returns to its home course in three weeks to host the Bill Dellinger Invitational (Sept. 22) at the Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield. The meet starts at 11 a.m. with the men’s 8K with the women’s 6K to follow at 11:45 a.m. Clute, a freshman from Olmsted Township, Ohio, navigated the 4K course at Joe Dancer Park in a time of 13:26.6 in her collegiate debut. She led a 1-2-4 UO finish with teammates Anika Thompson and Melissa Berry, respectively. Thompson crossed the line in 13:29.3 for second-place honors with Berry coming in at 13:30.9 as the team’s third scorer. The Women of Oregon’s top five was rounded out by Allura Markow (14:18.1), another UO freshman, in 17th place and Kendall Martin (14:46.7) in 27th overall. In the men’s race, Cook secured the top spot in the 6K with a time of 18:17.3, more than two seconds clear of runner-up Eliason Kabasenche of Portland. The win for Cook is the first of his UO cross country career. He was joined in the top five by teammate Kutoven Stevens who crossed fourth in 18:25.5 in his lineup debut.

OSU release – CORVALLIS – Oregon State got strong performances across the board to pick up a season-opening win at the Linfield Harrier Classic. The Beavers got three top-ten and seven top-20 performances from their official competitors in the 4K rust-buster. Transfers Sage Brooks (third) and Abigail Pradere (sixth) led the way, followed by sophomore returners Kate Laurent (seventh), Teaghan Knox (12th) and Jamie Hamlin (14th). Emily Foote raced to 19th and Delaney Griffin to 20th to round out the Oregon State competitors on Friday. The Beavers also raced several freshmen who put together excellent performances. The new Beavs, competing unattached in their first college action, would have placed third among teams at the event with five runners finishing in the top 25. Ruby Broadbent led the frosh with a fifth-place finish in 13:32.1, followed by Noemi Lundgren (11th) in 14:08.2 and Erin Cosgrove (15th) in 14:15.8. Kate Yahn and Jenna O’Beirne rounded out the top-20 in 21st and 22nd. Next up for the Beavers is the Dellinger Invitational, Sept. 22, at Springfield.
