OSU release – Mitchell Sets New 3000m Steeplechase School Record at High Performance Meet – CORVALLIS, Ore. – Kaylee Mitchell led the Oregon State track and field team at the OSU High Performance Meet on Friday and Saturday, setting the new school record in the 3000m steeplechase. “There are so many people to thank for making this meet happen,” said head coach Louie Quintana. “This was a challenge to put on during COVID, along with many moving parts, but we had fantastic help and the results speak for themselves. “I’m so proud of our team for stepping up and having a great final home meet. We were really good in the throws. Lindsay (McShane) continues to roll and Sydney (Guthrie-Baker) is putting together a really special senior year. Our distance runners had quite the historic weekend. Kaylee (Mitchell) and Grace (Fetherstonhaugh) rocked the steeple, and we were PR city in the 800, 1500 and 5k. We have great momentum heading into Pac-12s.” In her first steeplechase event of the year, Mitchell pulled in front immediately and never looked back as she finished first in a time of 9:57.40 to set a new school record. The previous record was set in 2019 by teammate Grace Fetherstonhaugh who finished in 10:03.13. Fetherstonhaugh just barely missed beating her previous record in the event as she claimed second with a finishing time of 10:03.45. Now seven for seven on the year in the hammer throw, Lindsay McShane posted six straight throws over 59m as she eventually took the event title with a throw of 63.24m to mark the second farthest in program history. Oregon State wraps up the regular season at the Oregon Twilight on May 7 in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field.
