It might be only the third time a Pacific Snake Eel has shown up on an Oregon Coast beach. It happened over the weekend on the North Coast near Astoria where a beachcomber found one wiggling in the sand. It was Sunday morning, March 29. He called the Seaside Aquarium, and luckily staff is still taking calls while caring for their marine exhibit. The Pacific Snake Eel was taken to the aquarium and placed in an isolation tank. Staff will attempt to slowly warm the water as the Eel is more used to the warmer climate between Peru and Northern California. Officials speculate that it might have caught a warm current flowing north before it dissipated in the cold waters off the Pacific Northwest.
