NBPD release – On 12/11/2018 at approximately 5:51pm, the North Bend Police Department received a 911 call reporting a vehicle verses pedestrian accident at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Marion Street in North Bend. The weather was heavy rain and the traffic was very heavy.  The investigation revealed that a Curry Coastal transit bus was stopped in the continuous left turn lane westbound on Virginia Avenue to make a left onto southbound Marion Street. The pedestrian, a 14-year-old juvenile, began crossing south to north attempting to cross 5 lanes of traffic from the southeast corner to the north east corner of that intersection. The pedestrian crossed in front of the Curry transit bus and emerged suddenly on the North side of the bus into the inside westbound lane of Virginia Ave.  The pedestrian was struck by a westbound vehicle whose driver could not have avoided the contact, due to view obstruction created by the bus. The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Bay Area Hospital.  He was alert and conscious, but the extent of his injuries are unknown.
