On November 23, 2016 at approximately 8:30 PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Highway 199 near milepost 5 (just south of Grants Pass). Preliminary investigation revealed a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling southbound on Highway 199 when the driver encountered a pedestrian walking in the lane of travel. The driver attempted to avoid striking the pedestrian but was unable to do so. After being struck by the Volkswagen, the pedestrian was struck by several other vehicles. The pedestrian, an adult male, was pronounced deceased on scene. Troopers are working to identify the pedestrian in order to notify the family. The driver of the Volkswagen, Brianna M WAKEFIELD, age 22, of Crescent City, California was not injured. Highway 199 was closed completely then partially for three and a half hours.
