The Lincoln City Police Department will be conducting an enhanced Pedestrian Safety Operation on Thursday, February 7th, 2019 on Hwy 101 in the area between “D” River Wayside and South 5th Street. The primary focus of the operation is to raise pedestrian safety awareness. With the use of a decoy pedestrian, the Lincoln City Police Department hopes to raise awareness of drivers through education and enforcement of pedestrian right of way laws. The operation will be conducted between the hours of 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Warning signs will be posted prior to entering the pedestrian safety operation zone. The members of the Lincoln City Police Department are dedicated to enhancing the safety of both the citizens and guests of the city. As a reminder, safety and courtesy go hand in hand regarding pedestrian crossings. Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to be alert for the right of way issues that affect each of them. Pedestrians need to exercise due caution when stepping into marked or unmarked crosswalks and to stay observant and cautious while crossing the roadway. Drivers need to remember to allow for ample time and distance in order to stop safely when approaching a crosswalk. Drivers also need to be aware of vehicles already stopped at crosswalk areas as they may be stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross. Funding for the enhanced pedestrian safety operations are made possible through a grant from Oregon Impact and Oregon Department of Transportation.
