On August 4, 2018 at about 11:48pm, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian on Hwy 62 near milepost 5. Investigation revealed that Jason ZIEGLER, age 39 of Medford, was driving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee westbound when he struck a pedestrian, Ignacio HERNANDEZ, age 39 of Eugene, who was in the roadway at the time of the collision. ZIEGLER stopped at the scene and called 911 to report the incident. After the initial collision witnesses indicate that a second vehicle struck HERNANDEZ but that operator/vehicle did not stop at the scene. ZIEGLER is cooperating fully with the investigation. HERNANDEZ sustained critical injuries and is being treated at Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford. Two westbound lanes were closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.
