Marshfield’s basketball teams got a split at Marist Catholic in Eugene Thursday. The Lady Pirates fell 51-48 to the Spartans, while first-place Cottage Grove (6-1, 7-3) beat visiting Junction City 41-32 and Siuslaw bettered Elmira 46-14 at Florence. With two games to go in the District 4 league season, Marshfield (4-3, 5-5) stands in second place one game behind the Spartans (5-2, 5-2). Marshfield’s boys (6-2, 8-3) beat Marist Catholic (5-3, 7-3) 55-51 to move within one game of first-place Junction City (7-1, 11-1) with two regular season games remaining next week. JC won at Cottage Grove 78-54, and fourth-place Siuslaw (4-4, 7-4) beat visiting Elmira 66-41.
