ROSEBURG, Ore. – On Wednesday, November 17, 2022, at 11:00 am., 9-1-1 dispatchers received a call from a local business in the 3000-block of Old Highway 99 South stating that a male, 77-year-old Don Wesley Hartline of Roseburg, had pointed a firearm at the site manager after a disagreement about non-payment for services. The caller told dispatchers that Hartline had left in a vehicle. As deputies were investigating the incident and searching the area for Hartline, a second 9-1-1 was received from a business in the 600-block of SE Jackson Street at 11:15 a.m. That caller reported that Hartline was at that location and had a gun in his pocket. Hartline had reportedly told the caller that he had pointed a gun at someone and the police were looking for him. The caller stated that Hartline was cooperative with them and agreed to place the gun on the counter and allow the employees to leave. All occupants of the business exited safely leaving Hartline alone inside. Law enforcement officers from the Sheriff’s Office and Roseburg Police Department responded and contained the area. Crisis Negotiators from the Sheriff’s Office began communicating with Hartline with the goal of de-escalating the situation. At 11:45 a.m., Hartline exited the building and was taken into custody without incident. Hartline was transported to the Douglas County Jail where he was lodged on the following crimes: Menacing; Pointing a Firearm at Another; Unlawful Use of a Weapon; Disorderly Conduct II; Unlawful Possession or Carrying of Concealed Weapons; The Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigating agency.
