It’s called a Polar Bear Swim and it is an annual New Year’s Day event for many communities around the World. Here in Coos Co., the Polar Bear Swim Club meets early New Year’s Day morning at Sunset Bay, west of Charleston, to take that First Day Plunge into the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean. A variety of outfits are worn and a shower truck is nearby. It is quite an event to participate in, or to just watch. About 9 a.m., maybe earlier, maybe later, but it will happen New Year’s Day morning.
