Law enforcement agencies in the Bay Area were involved in a high-speed chase Wednesday, Nov. 27, 8:19 a.m. According to a news release from the North Bend Police Dept., officers initially were summoned to the Bay Area Hospital Community Health & Education Center near Sherman Ave. & Yew Street. “Officers responded to a call of a disorderly male that was trying to start fights with employees.” He was suspected of being under the influence of either alcohol or drugs. The suspect left before officers arrived, but a description of his white Toyota Prius with California plates was broadcast. The suspect vehicle was located northbound on Hwy. 101. It fled. “The vehicle reached speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour, passed vehicles heading into oncoming traffic and continued northbound on US-101 north of the McCullough Bridge.” He made a U-turn at Spinreel Road, proceeded south, avoided spike strips by driving east on East Bay Road. The suspect stopped his vehicle at McClurg Road and was taken into custody without incident. He was identified as 38-year old Brandon Martinez, Westminster, CA. He was charged with Felony Eluding, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangering. Transported to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille.
