News release SCINT.  On Wednesday March 15th 2017, Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Jeff Smith and Recruit Trooper James Jarrell conducted a traffic stop on a northbound passenger car for several traffic infractions near milepost 234 on U.S. Highway 101, North Bend Oregon. Several indications of drug trafficking were noted and Coquille Tribal Police  Officer Robert Scoville and his Drug Detection Canine “Ben” were  summoned to the scene.  An initial search of the vehicle did not yield any controlled substances.  However, evidence controlled substances were more thoroughly secreted was noted.  The vehicle was seized and transported to the Oregon State Police Coos Bay Area Command. On Thursday March 16th 2017, the Oregon State Police assisted by the Coquille Tribal Police Department, Coos Bay Police Department and the South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team executed a search warrant on the vehicle. During the search about 10.8 pounds of methamphetamine was located in a hidden compartment.  The seizure constitutes the largest single seizure of methamphetamine in Coos County history.  Charges of Delivery and Possession of Methamphetamine are being referred to the Coos County District Attorney’s Office on the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.
