Possession of Firearm, Jan. 10

News release CCSO.  On 1/8/2016 at about 1317 hours, a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy, making a patrol of the area south of Powers, Oregon observed a male subject walking along Highway Route 30, South of Powers near the area of China Flats.  The Deputy recognized the male subject as Russell Koser, 34 YOA, who the deputy knew was wanted for a felony warrant. As the Deputy stopped his vehicle to contact Russell Koser, the deputy saw Mr. Koser attempted to toss an object into the ditch along the roadway.  The deputy made contact with Mr. Koser and during the contact with him, located a small silver semi automatic pistol where Mr. Koser had thrown it in the ditch.  The pistol serial numbers indicated the gun had been reported stolen from a residence in North Bend late in 2016. Mr. Koser was taken into custody at this time and when they took him to his camp nearby to tend to a dog Mr. Koser had, they also found a Ruger rifle in Mr. Koser’s campsite.  Russell Koser was charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of Firearm, one count of Theft I, two counts of Unlawful Possession of Firearm or Ammunition by Persons Prohibited as well as the felony warrant service for unrelated drug charges.  He was transported and booked into the Coos County Jail.
