The 41st Annual Prefontaine Memorial Run takes place Saturday, Sept. 17th in Coos Bay. The annual race has not been held for the past two-years due to COVID-19. There are two portions to the Memorial Run, the high school division 5K race and the open division 10K race. Both races begin at 10a at Fourth and Anderson, proceed west to Central Ave., up the hill to Ocean Blvd. and turns around near the Memorial Garden. Runners will return on Ocean Blvd., turn right onto 10th St., left on Elrod, and then right at the corner where Steve Prefontaine’s family home is located. There is a plaque. The runners will enter Pete Susick Stadium and then finish the race on Prefontaine Track. Awards will be presented to the overall male and female runners as well as the age group winners. The grandstands will be open to spectators. North Bend and Marshfield cross-country teams will participate. The Pre Run for Kids will be held on Sunday, 1:30p, beginning at South 2nd St., behind the Coos Art Museum. It is free.
