Marshfield’s baseball team had to drive through rain, hail and snow to get its home game in Friday with Scappoose. The two teams met in Newport with the temperature hovering just below 40 degrees and the rain continuing to fall. However, Frank Wade Memorial Field has “field turf” which allowed the teams to play their non-league contest. The Indians, from the Cowapa League, made short work of the difficult weather game. Scappoose scored nine runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back in a 23-2 five inning win to improve to 4-1, while the Pirates fell to 1-3. Cottage Grove at North Bend Friday was cancelled due to rain. Cottage Grove at Marshfield Saturday was also washed out. On Monday, CG is scheduled to play at 2-0 North Bend (3p). Marshfield (1-3) goes to the Hidden Valley Tournament south of Grants Pass with games scheduled at noon, against Cascade, and 2:30 p.m. against North Valley.
