Marshfield’s baseball team only got one game of a scheduled doubleheader in Friday with Marist Catholic at Coos Bay. The 4A District 4 League leading Spartans won 9-1. The second game has been re-scheduled for May 9th at Eugene. In a make up game, North Bend will host Cottage Grove Monday, 5 p.m., Clyde Allen Field, North Bend.

Marshfield’s softball team split a 4A District 4 doubleheader with visiting Marist Catholic at Southwestern Oregon Community College Friday. The Lady Pirates won the opener 10-8, but lost the second game 19-15 (8). Marshfield (3-2, 11-5) is scheduled to play at North Bend on Tuesday, 5 p.m. In a make up game, Cottage Grove will visit North Bend Monday, 5 p.m., Oak Street Park Fields, North Bend.

Steve Prefontaine’s two-mile high school record has withstood another challenge. Tyrone Gorze, out of Crater, Central Point, took aim Friday at the Oregon Relays in Eugene, but the University of Washington bound senior came up five-seconds short (8:46.5) to the former Marshfield runner’s 8:41.5 set in 1969. Current Pirate Alexander Garcia Silver finished fourth in the race (9:01.86). Garcia Silver also ran a leg on Marshfield’s Distance Medley Relay team (Jaxson Stovall, Jack Waddington, & Bodey Lutes) which finished 19th (10:50.82) in a 68-field race. In the 4X100 Relay Prelims, North Bend’s team (Nathaniel Folsom, Andrew Efraimson, Justice & Jason Padgett) ran the fastest 4A time in the State, 43.55 and finished 12th in the prelims. Marshfield (Drake Rogers, Mekhi Johnson, Elijah Fox, Jonathon Parks) was 36th (44.42) out of 63 teams in the prelims. The Pirates 4X400 Relay team ran the fastest time among 4A schools this Spring in 3:32.78 (Jack Waddington, Jonathon Parks, Elijah Cellura, Bodey Lutes) in finishing 21st in the field of 62. Marshfield’s Sprint Medley Relay team (Mekhi Johnson, Qwentyn Petty, Quinton Kloster, Elijah Cellura) was 27th (3:52.11) out of 42-teams. Petty was also 21st in the Long Jump (19-11). Sophomore Bodey Lutes was fifth in the 400 (49.88). For the Pirate girls, junior Daphne Scriven was 10th in the Shot Put (34-11), & senior Tori Cox 18th (33-1.75). Senior Kate Miles placed 15th in the Javelin (108-10.25). On Saturday, Lutes was 13th in the 800 (1:55.85 fastest 4A time in the State). Garcia Silver was 13th in the 1500 (3:58.83) and 11th in the Mile (4:15.98) and fifth in the 3000 (8:27.72 fastest time in 4A) in an en route race. Jack Waddington was 28th in the High Jump (5-6.25), Jonathon Parks sixth in the Pole Vault (14-11.25 tops among 4A vaulters) and Danner Wilson 14th (13-5.5). North Bend’s Brody Justice was 18th (13-5.5). For the Pirate girls: Cox was 18th in the Discus (104-11).
