Marshfield’s basketball teams opened District 4 league play Friday at Cottage Grove and the varsity teams swept. The boys (1-0, 12-2) won the opener 59-46, while the Lady Pirates (1-0, 11-3) won the nightcap 53-31. Marshfield hosts Siuslaw Tuesday.

North Bend’s girls (2-1, 8-3) fell 62-20 at Crater on Friday in a 5A Midwestern League prep basketball game. The Bulldog boys lost 91-32. The boys (0-4, 2-10) are scheduled to host Brookings-Harbor Monday, 5:30 p.m. The girl’s game with the Bruins has been cancelled. North Bend is scheduled to return to MWL play at Springfield on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
