OSAA 3A Basketball Tournament
The OSAA/On Point Community Credit Union 3A Basketball Tournament in the Bay Area Saturday saw a first-time winner and a repeat champion. At the end of three days of championship basketball at both North Bend and Marshfield high schools, the Banks Braves won their first-ever girl’s State Basketball Championship with a 47-38 win over top-seed Corbett Saturday night at Marshfield’s Pirate Palace. Cascade Christian (Medford) repeated as boy’s State Champions with a 76-54 win over top-seed Westside Christian (Tigard). Earlier in the day in the boy’s bracket, Creswell beat Banks 64-51 to claim fourth-place, and Oregon Episcopal School (Portland) downed De La Salle North Catholic (Portland) 78-71 for third-place. In the girl’s bracket, Amity beat Pleasant Hill 42-27 for fourth, and Sutherlin won over Santiam Christian (Corvallis) 46-31 for third.

Marshfield’s girls’ basketball team advanced to the OSAA/On Point Community Credit Union 4A Basketball Tournament at Forest Grove HS March 9-11 with a 48-37 First Round playoff win Friday night at home over visiting Molalla. The Lady Pirates (18-7), the No. 4 seed, will now play No. 5 seed Henley (17-8) Thursday, March 9, 3:15 p.m. The two played earlier in the season in a crossover game between the Skyline League and Sky-Em League Jan. 7th at Junction City. Marshfield won 41-37. Bandon’s girls lost both games at the OSAA 2A Basketball Tournament at Pendleton. The Tigers lost their opener to Stanfield 43-34, and then dropped a 32-28 consolation game to Colton.
