North Bend remains unbeaten and Marshfield is still seeking its first win of the 2023 prep football season following the annual Bay Area Rivalry Game at Vic Adams Field, Friday night. The Bulldogs (1-0, 3-0) won 21-12 over the Pirates (0-1, 0-3) in a good hard-fought game in front of a large group of supporters for both teams. More importantly to both teams the contest was a 4A Special District 4 League opener with North Bend coming out as one of the leaders following the first week. Also in that winner’s group were Henley (1-0, 3-0) over visiting Ashland (0-1, 2-1) 46-15, and Hidden Valley (1-0, 1-2) over visiting Klamath Union (0-1, 1-2) 20-7. Defending league champion Mazama (0-0, 2-1) had a non-conference game at Marist Catholic (0-0, 2-1) and lost for the first time this season 33-29. This week’s league games have KU at Marshfield, No. Bend at Mazama, and Ashland at Hidden Valley. Henley will have a non-league game at Cascade. In 3A football: Siuslaw (1-0, 2-1) downed visiting La Pine 60-20 at Florence. Brookings-Harbor (0-3, 0-3) loses to Cascade Christian 63-0 at Medford. Visiting North Valley wins at Coquille (2-1, 2-1) 44-36. In 2A, Gold Beach (1-0, 2-1) beat visiting Glide 50-20. Reedsport (0-1, 1-2) falls at Oakland 44-0. Bandon/Pacific (1-0, 3-0) wins at North Douglas/Yoncalla 31-14. In 1A8, Myrtle Pt. (0-0, 3-0) downs visiting Bonanza 60-20 at North Valley HS, Grants Pass. In 1A6, Powers (2-0, 3-0) wins at Prospect Charter/Butte Falls 55-0.
