Marshfield’s Gabe Mahaffy & Ben Mahaffy are tied for 12th & 14th after the first-day at the OSAA 4A Golf State Championships, Quail Valley, Banks, Monday. Gabe shot an 82, while Ben had an 84. Oscar Day (88) is third for the Pirates, followed by Ezra Waterman, T38 (93) & Mason Pederson (97). The Pirates are sixth after the first day (347). Valley Catholic (329) leads. The Marshfield girls are in fourth place (401) at the 4A/3A/2A/1A State Championships at Eagle Crest, Redmond. St. Mary’s (338) leads. Freshman Bella Roberts leads the Lady Pirates with a first day total 94 for 14th place, she is followed by Analise McCord tied for 21st (99), Nyssa Haynes T25 (102), Shay Herzog (106) & Paige Kirchner (120). At the 5A championships at Emerald Valley, Creswell, North Bend’s Kamryn Craig is tied for 24th (105), Jade Nanda is tied for 43rd (122), followed by Jordyn Prince (128), Morgan Hoefs (135) & Jill Sorric (136). At the boy’s 5A State Championships Trysting Tree, Corvallis, North Bend freshman Owen Bascom is tied for 14th (80) and David Roberts tied for 43rd (91).

Marshfield’s softball team closed out the 4A District 4 league season with a sweep of Siuslaw at Florence Monday, 20-10 (6) & 20-0 (3). The Lady Pirates (10-5, 14-11) clinch second-place behind league champion Marist Catholic (15-0, 22-1) and will host a play-in playoff game. North Bend’s softball team is scheduled to host Thurston, Tuesday, 5 p.m., Oak St. Fields.

Marshfield’s baseball team split a 4A District 4 doubleheader at Siuslaw, Florence, Monday. The Vikings beat the Pirates in game one 9-8, but Marshfield won the second game 7-5 to clinch second-place in the league behind champion Marist Catholic (13-2, 17-7). The Pirates (11-4, 15-9) tied Junction City (11-4, 16-8) but swept the Tigers this season in league play. North Bend is scheduled to host Thurston, Tuesday, 5 p.m., Clyde Allen Field.
