OSAA BXB Championships
Henley’s girls won the OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union 4A State Basketball Championship 41-38 over Astoria Saturday at Forest Grove High School. The Lady Fish entered the finals as the No. 1 Seed, and Henley the No. 2 Seed. It was the North State vs. South State, and the Hornets pulled out the win with an aggressive defense that gave Astoria fits. Cascade finished in third with a 35-33 win over Philomath, and Klamath Union took fourth with a 54-43 win over Klamath Union. In the boy’s tournament, Baker was on fire with its shooting and no one could keep pace as the Bulldogs won the title 75-58 over Junction City. Cascade was third with a 63-53 win over Marist, and Madras was fourth with a 72-62 decision over fellow league foe Crook Co. Central Catholic downed Roosevelt 85-76 to win the 6A boys at the Chiles Center, Portland; Summit took the 5A crown 52-50 on an exciting buzzer-beater at Linfield College, McMinnville. In the girls’ 6A at the Chiles Center, 48-38, and Silverton won the 5A 61-60 at Linfield College.

Both Marshfield and North Bend open the 2024 prep baseball season with non-league games on the road Monday. The Pirates are scheduled to play at Sweet Home, 4:30p, and the Bulldogs at Brookings-Harbor, 4p (Update: canceled). In the 3A, Reedsport at Coquille, 4:30p.

The Lady Pirates are scheduled to host Sweet Home at 3p, Coos Head Field, Coos Bay, and the Bulldogs are scheduled to host Brookings-Harbor at 4p, Oak St. Fields (Update: Canceled). In 3A, Reedsport at Coquille, 4p. In 2A, Bandon at Riddle Jamboree playing Riddle at 12:30p, and Days Ck. at 2p.
