North Bend’s baseball team split a non-league doubleheader at Hidden Valley, near Grants Pass, Saturday. The Mustangs won the opener 4-0, but the Bulldogs took the second game 6-5. North Bend (4-4) is scheduled to open league play Tuesday, April 11th, at Marist Catholic (7-2), Eugene, 5 p.m.

Marshfield and visiting Hidden Valley split a non-conference prep softball doubleheader Friday at Southwestern Oregon Community College, Coos Bay. The Mustangs (7-3-2), out of the Grants Pass area, came-from-behind to down the Pirates 13-9 in the first game, but the Lady Pirates came back and won the second game 9-8. Marshfield (8-2) opens District 4 league play at home Tuesday against Junction City (5-5). On Saturday, North Bend lost a non-league doubleheader at Hidden Valley 11-1 & 10-8. The Bulldogs (3-7) are scheduled to open District 4 League play at Marist Catholic (5-5), Tuesday, April 11th, 5 p.m.
Alexander Garcia Silver
Marshfield distance runner Alexander Garcia Silver placed seventh in the Rated 3200 Race at the Arcadia Invitational in Southern California Saturday. The Pirate senior was timed in 9:04.48. William Brunner, of Battle Mountain HS, Mintum, CO, won the 34-competitor race in 8:59.25. According to the Arcadia Invitational website, “a record 690 schools/36 states registered!”
Prefontaine/Rotary Track Meet
Coquille’s girls and Siuslaw’s boys won the 21st Annual Prefontaine/Rotary Track Meet at Marshfield HS, Coos Bay, Saturday. The Red Devils edged Eureka, CA 92-88, while North Bend was third with 54, followed by St. Mary’s (Medford), and Bandon fifth. Marshfield was 8th (36). There were 19-teams on the girl’s side. On the boy’s side there were 21-teams. The Vikings won with 108.5-points, followed by Eureka (81), Crook Co. (78), North Bend fourth (70), Phoenix fifth (62.5), and Marshfield sixth (43). Individually, North Bend’s Jason Padgett won the 100 (11.52) & 200 (23.10). The junior also ran the anchor leg on the winning 4X100 Relay team in a meet record time (44.10) along with Nathaniel Folsom, Andrew Efraimson & Brody Justice. Mason Detzler a junior for Myrtle Pt. swept the Shot Put (53-6.5) and Discus (153-4). Marshfield sophomore Bodey Lutes ran the fastest time among 4A runners in the State in winning the 800 (1:56.21) in a new meet record. North Bend senior Keegan Young became the 4A State leader in winning the Javelin (173-3). Individually in the girl’s competition, Bandon freshman Marley Petrey won three events, the 100 (13.29), 400 (1:02.30) & 300H (48.99). She also tossed in a leg on the Tigers’ 4X400 relay team that placed second (4:31.86) to Crook Co. (4:31.46). Marshfield junior Daphne Scriven won both the Shot Put (34-5.5) & Discus (125-0). Next meet for Marshfield and North Bend is Tuesday, April 11th, 4 p.m., at North Bend.
