Marshfield’s baseball team split a non-league prep doubleheader with visiting Douglas Saturday in Coos Bay. The Pirates won the open 4-1, and the Trojans took the second game 8-4. Marshfield (4-5) opens league play Tuesday, April 12 at home to Cottage Grove, 5 p.m. North Bend had a 5A Midwestern League split with visiting Eagle Pt. at Clyde Allen Field Saturday. The Eagles won the opener 7-2, but the Bulldogs took the second game 4-2. North Bend (1-5, 7-5) is scheduled to play at North Eugene Tuesday, 5 p.m.

Visiting Eagle Point swept a 5A Midwestern League doubleheader Saturday over North Bend at the Oak Street Fields. The Eagles won 13-8 & 16-14. The Bulldogs (0-6, 2-9) are scheduled to play at North Eugene on Tuesday, April 12, 5 p.m.
Coos Co. Track Meet
Marshfield’s boys and Coquille’s girls won the 114th Annual Coos Co. Track Meet at Marshfield HS Friday night in Coos Bay. The Pirates boys tallied 190-points to North Bend’s 153.5, Coquille 65, Myrtle Pt. 59 & Bandon 43.5. Coquille’s girls won with 132-points, followed by North Bend 112, Bandon 108, Marshfield 96, Myrtle Pt. 43 & Powers 6. Individually, the Bulldogs senior John Efraimson (named the Outstanding Runner) won both the 200 (22.97) & 400 (52.02). In addition, he ran legs on the winning 4X100 Relay Team (Drew Phillips, Efraimson, Brody Justice, Jason Padgett) 44.57 and the winning 4X400 Relay Team (Padgett, Nathaniel Folsom, Phillips, Efraimson) 3:34.44. Marshfield senior Matthew Allen (named Outstanding Thrower) won the Discus (120-5) and placed second in the Shot Put (39-8). Pirate Junior Trent Summers (named Outstanding Jumper) won the Pole Vault (15-0) and took the 300IH (46.70). In the girl’s events, Coquille junior Trinidy Blanton (named Outstanding Thrower) won the Long Jump (15-10.5), Javelin (125-7) & 200 (27.62). Red Devil senior Hailey Combie was second in both the Shot Put (31-9.25) and Discus (96-10) Marshfield Senior Bailey Wallack (Outstanding Runner) won the 400 (1:03.37). Pirate sophomore Daphne Scriven took the Discus (108-8). North Bend’s freshman Drew Hood (Outstanding Jumper) won the 100H (18.20) & Triple Jump (32-9) Other NBHS winners included: Senior Keia Morris 100 (13.35), junior Sara Slade 3000 (12:30.94), and senior Lupita Trujillo Pole Vault (8-0). For the Bulldog boys: Senior Drew Phillips Long Jump (19-7.5) & second in the Triple Jump (41-4.5). For Marshfield: junior Jack Waddington High Jump (5-10), junior Alexander Garcia-Silver 3000 (9:11.60), senior Jacob Calvert 1500 (4:45.66) & second in the 3K (10:37.05), and senior Ishmael Rodriguez 800 (2:03.76). Marshfield will host a District 4 meet Tuesday, 4 p.m. while North Bend goes to Thurston Wednesday, 3:30 p.m., for a 5A Midwestern League meet. Both teams will compete Saturday, April 16, at the Prefontaine Rotary Invitational at MHS.
