As a tune-up going into North Bend’s Coast Classic Wrestling Tournament Friday & Saturday, Marshfield’s wrestling team had a couple of duals at the Pirate Palace Thursday. The Pirates defeated Henley of Klamath Falls 46-36. Wins came from Trayton Forbes 113, Bailey Thompson 132, Ethan Flood 138, John Lemons Jr. 145, Jonathan Calvert 152, Aryan Wright 170 (forfeit), Richardo Hughes 195, and Trenton Edwards 285. Crook Co., of Prineville, defeated the Pirates 56-21 in the second match. The Cowboys swept the lower weights. Jonathan Calvert got things going for Marshfield at 152 with a win, followed by Aryan Wright at 170, and Trenton Edwards at 285.
Coast Classic WR
Crook Co. won the 37th annual Coast Classic Wrestling Tournament at North Bend HS Saturday. The Cowboys of Prineville scored 210.0-points to Eagle Point’s 186.5. Crater was third with 173.0, followed by Redmond with 150.5, and Grants Pass with 129.0. Thirty-nine teams competed. Siuslaw was 15th (85.0), Coquille 17th (48.0), Myrtle Point 21st (34.0), Marshfield 22nd (33.0), North Bend 33rd (15.0), Gold Beach 36th (6.0), Brookings-Harbor and Reedsport did not score. Individually from the South Coast: 152 – Cameron Houston, Coquille, sixth; 182 – Riley Jones, Coquille, first; 220 – Logan Clayburn, Myrtle Pt., first; Neal Walter, North Bend, sixth.

It was a sweep for Marshfield basketball Saturday at home to visiting Creswell. The Lady Pirates won 60-27 to improve to 3-2. Marshfield is scheduled to open the South Coast Holiday Basketball Tournament Thursday, Dec. 15, 7 p.m., against Hidden Valley. The Pirate boys beat the Bulldogs 40-39 to improve to 2-1. Marshfield hosts Siuslaw Tuesday, Dec. 13, 7:15 p.m. Both of North Bend’s games at Waldport Saturday were cancelled. The Bulldogs are at Brookings-Harbor on Tuesday.
