Marshfield’s girls are still listed among “others receiving significant votes” in this week’s OSAA/Coach’s Prep Basketball Poll. The Lady Pirates (3-2) are just outside the 4A Top 10 led by unbeaten Gladstone (4-0), followed by No. 2 Baker (3-0), No. 3 Astoria (2-1); No. 4 Madras (3-1) & No. 5 Marist Catholic (3-1). Marshfield’s two losses were to Astoria & Madras. Bandon (4-1) is No. 2 in the 2A topped by Salem Academy (4-0).

Marshfield swept visiting Siuslaw in a pair of non-league prep basketball games at the Pirate Palace, Coos Bay, Tuesday. The Lady Pirate JV team downed the Lady Viks 35-12 and Marshfield’s varsity boys won 44-41. At Brookings-Harbor, North Bend’s boys won 69-47, no score on the Bulldog girls’ game. Marshfield’s girls (3-2) and boys (3-1) open the South Coast Holiday Tournament Thursday night against Hidden Valley of Grants Pass. North Bend (4-2) hosts Creswell Friday, 7 p.m.
