North Bend’s girls fell at home to visiting Creswell 51-25 in a non-conference prep basketball game Friday. The Bulldogs (3-4) are scheduled to host Coquille Tuesday, Dec. 20, 5 p.m. North Bend’s boys also lost to Creswell, 58-43. The Bulldogs (4-3) host Coquille Tuesday, 7 p.m.

Marshfield’s girls took third place in their own tournament Saturday. The Lady Pirates downed Redmond 58-53. Marshfield opened with a 54-20 win over Hidden Valley on Thursday, but fell for the second time this pre-season to Astoria 44-36 on Friday. The Lady Pirates (5-3) host Crater on Monday, Dec. 19, 3:30 p.m. at the Pirate Palace. Marshfield’s boys went 1-2 at the tournament. The Pirates lost their opener to Hidden Valley on Thursday 34-32, then lost in the consolation semi-finals to Crook Co. 54-45, but came back and beat Mazama on Saturday 52-34. Marshfield plays Crater Monday, 5 p.m., Pirate Palace.
South Coast Holiday Tournament
Philomath’s boys beat Cascade Christian 47-43 to win the 2022 South Coast Holiday Basketball Tournament at Marshfield HS, Coos Bay, Saturday. Astoria took the girl’s side with a 51-43 win over Philomath. The tournament is a fund-raiser for the Marshfield Booster Club.

Marshfield’s wrestling team placed fourth at the 14-team Sisters Tournament Saturday in Central Oregon. Burns won with 161-points, followed by La Pine 160, Ridgeview 138.0 and the Pirates 98.5. Individually for MHS: 106 – Garron Castro, 5th; 113 – Trayton Forbes, 3rd & Leonardo Pacheco, 4th; 120 – Reese Hite, 3rd; 138 – Ethan Flood, 2nd; 145 – John Lemmons, Jr., 3rd; 152 – Jonathan Calvert, 3rd; 195 – Richardo Chacon, 3rd; 220 – Bobby Adams, 2nd; 285 – Bryson Harvey, 2nd. Tuesday the Pirates are scheduled to wrestle at Mazama, Klamath Falls.

North Bend’s wrestling team placed 12th out of 37-teams at the Grants Pass Winter Kickoff Saturday in Southern Oregon. Individually for the Bulldogs: 145 – Wyatt Smith lost in the semi-finals, placed 3rd; 170 – Kevin Garcia lost in the quarter-finals; 220 – Neal Walter lost in the quarter-finals, placed 3rd. North Bend will next wrestle at the Marshfield Invite on Jan. 4, 2023.
