Monday, Feb. 27, 2023 is the first day the Oregon Schools Activities Association allows its member schools to start practice for Spring Sports, baseball, softball, track & field, tennis & golf.

LaGrande won the OSAA 4A Wrestling Championships at Memorial Coliseum, Portland, Friday. The Tigers tallied 299.0-points to Sweet Home’s 253.5, and Crook County’s 230.0. North Bend was 13th with 38.0-points and Marshfield 15th with 32.0-points. Siuslaw was fifth in the 3A with 83.0-points, Coquille/Bandon 13th with 39.0-points. In the 2A/1A classification, Myrtle Pt. was 14th with 28.0-points and Reedsport did not score. OSAA Gwr
The OSAA 4A/3A/2A/1A State Girls’ Wrestling Championships were held at Memorial Coliseum, Portland, Friday. La Pine won the team title, Siuslaw sixth, Coquille/Bandon 32nd, Marshfield tied for 35th, and North Bend tied for 40th. Individual results from the South Coast: Elyssa Diego, MHS, forfeited both matches at 105; Macali Lade, Siuslaw, 1st at 110; Azalea Liles, Coquille/Bandon, 3rd at 115; Kayla Hayes, NB (1-2) at 115; Mariana Velasquez, MHS, (2-2) at 235.

Marshfield’s girls tune up prep basketball game Saturday for the upcoming OSAA playoffs tuned out to be an Astoria (23-2) win 62-30 at North Eugene HS. Both teams are in the first round of the 4A playoffs and awaiting an opponent from the play-in round. The Lady Pirates (17-7) are scheduled to host a First Round game on March 3, during the 3A Tournament. Officials will adjust the time schedule of the 3A Tournament to accommodate Marshfield’s home game. No. 6 Bandon (23-5) won their 2A playoff game at home over Regis 60-56 Friday and will now face No. 3 Stanfield (25-1) at the 2A Tournament, Pendleton, March 2, 6:30 p.m.

Both Marshfield and North Bend bumped their 4A boys’ basketball “play-in” playoff games to Monday due to the weather. The Pirates (11-14) play at La Grande (11-11) at 4:30 p.m. and the Bulldogs (10-13) play at Madras (12-11) at 5 p.m.

OSAA 3A Bbxb Field Set
The OSAA/On Point Community Credit Union 3A Boys’ State Basketball Championships are March 2-4 in the Bay Area. First round games will be played at Marshfield beginning at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, when No. 8 Pleasant Hill (21-5) plays No. 1 Westside Christian (25-4). At 3 p.m., No. 5 Oregon Episcopal (19-7) vs. No. 4 Banks (22-3); 6:30 p.m., No. 6 Cascade Christian (24-4) vs. No. 3 Dayton (25-1); and, 8:15 p.m., No. 7 Creswell (20-4) vs. No. 2 De La Salle North Catholic (23-3). Consolation games will follow Friday morning at North Bend HS, and then the Final Four at Marshfield Friday afternoon and evening. Championship game is set for Saturday at MHS. Tickets to all of the games can be found on-line at www.osaa.org.

OSAA 3A Gbxb Field nearly Set
Only one slot is left to be filled in the OSAA/On Point Community Credit Union 3A Girls’ State Basketball Tournament. The tourney is set for March 2-4 in the Bay Area with first round games at North Bend HS; however, due to the weather, Coquille (20-8) and Corbett (22-3) have not gotten their playoff game in. The two will try today, Monday, Feb. 27, 6 p.m. at Corbett. The other seven teams are set for the tournament. Thursday, March 2, 1:30 p.m., No. 9 Lakeview (24-4) vs. No. 1 Banks (25-2); 3:15 p.m., No. 5 Santiam Christian (23-5) vs. Amity (21-4); 6:30 p.m. will be the winner of the Coquille/Corbett game vs. No. 6 Nyssa (22-4); and, at 8:15 p.m., No. 7 Pleasant Hill (22-1) vs. No. 2 Sutherlin (26-2). Girl’s consolation games will be played at Marshfield Friday morning and then the Final Four also at MHS in the afternoon and evening. Championship game is set for Saturday night at MHS.
