Marshfield’s girls took first-place at the Stayton Holiday Basketball Tournament. The Lady Pirates beat No. 1 ranked and previously unbeaten Baker 40-39 Friday night. The Lady Pirates (8-4) are now ranked No. 4, while Baker (7-1) is No. 3. Astoria (9-2) is No. 1 and Gladstone (9-2) No. 2. To reach the championship game, Marshfield beat Jefferson 64-41 in the first-round, host Stayton 45-29 in the semi-finals to reach the match-up with the Bulldogs in the final. The Lady Pirates are next scheduled to play in the Crossover Tournament with the Skyline Conference Friday at Marist Catholic, Eugene, and Saturday at Junction City.

North Bend’s girls were third at the Newport Coast Classic Friday. The Bulldogs beat Santiam 30-23. On Wednesday, North Bend beat Taft 37-26 in the opener, but lost to the host Cubs 39-34 in the semi-finals Thursday. The Bulldogs (5-7) head to the Crossover Tournament Friday and Saturday at Marist Catholic & Junction City.

Marshfield’s boys took third-place at the Stayton Holiday Basketball Tournament Friday. The Pirates beat Molalla 60-24 for third, while Baker beat host Stayton 74-62 in the championship game. Marshfield won their open over Scappoose 56-53 Wednesday, but lost to Stayton 65-23 in the semi-finals. The Pirates (6-5), now ranked No. 17, are scheduled to host Coquille Tuesday, 7 p.m., Pirate Palace, Coos Bay.
