Marshfield’s baseball team took a big step towards securing a playoff berth Tuesday with a 5-1 4A District 4 win at Junction City. The Pirates (8-3, 12-8) have four-games remaining including a make-up doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday, 1 & 3 p.m., at home against fourth place Elmira (5-6, 10-10). Marist Catholic (11-2, 15-7) is in first place and Junction City (9-4, 14-8) sits in third. Marist and JC both have two-games remaining. North Bend dropped a pair of 5A Midwestern League games to visiting No. Eugene Tuesday at Clyde Allen Field, 4-3, & 11-8. The Bulldogs (1-11, 7-13) are scheduled to play at first-place Thurston (13-1, 19-2) Saturday, 1 p.m.

Marshfield’s softball team lost 8-5 at Junction City Tuesday in a 4A District 4 league game. The Lady Pirates (8-5, 12-11) are in second place, just ahead of Elmira (7-6, 9-11) and JC (6-7, 11-11) with two games to go. Marshfield is scheduled to play at Siuslaw (0-11, 0-16) Friday.

Marshfield’s boys finished third at the 4A District Golf Tournament Tuesday, Tokatee Golf Course. Marist Catholic took first place followed by Cascade and then the Pirates. Marist Catholic’s Ben Proulx was the medalist with a 153 over the two-day tourney. Oscar Day led Marshfield with a sixth-place finish (8-84 165). Ben Mahaffy was second on the Pirate team (85-83), followed by Mason Pederson (89-89), Ezra Waterman (90-88) & Gabe Mahaffy (92-89). Marshfield’s girls were also third, but at Bandon Crossings. St. Mary’s, Medford, took first followed by Marist Catholic. Marist Catholic’s Sanhya Vaikuntam was the medalist (77-75 152). Freshman Bella Roberts led the Pirates (104-102 206), she was followed by Analise McCord (124-116), Nyssa Haynes (122-123), Shay Herzog (107-109) & Paige Kirchner (120-111).

North Bend’s girls took second at the 5A Midwestern League District Golf Tournament at Tokatee Tuesday. The Bulldogs were led by Kamryn Craig who placed second (98-99 197), she was followed by Jordan Prince (116-118) in 8th & Jade Nanda (114-121) 9th. Also for North Bend, Morgan Hoefs (132-126) & Jill Sorric (135-130).
