North Bend sophomore Owen Bascom finished second in State at the 4A OSAA State Golf Championships at Trysting Tree Golf Club at Corvallis Tuesday. Tyce Helmick, a senior from Ontario, was the medalist with a two-day total of 141 (73-68). Bascom was one stroke back at 142 (70-72). Marshfield senior Oscar Day tied for 11th (78-81, 159). Baker/Powder Valley won the team championship with 613 strokes. North Bend was sixth with 688 and Marshfield seventh with 725. Individually for the Bulldogs: senior David Roberts 21st (84-85, 169); freshman Behr Gordon 39th (93-95, 188); junior Carter Knutson 40th (95-94, 189); sophomore Dashul Gordon T42nd (98-95, 193); Individually for the Pirates: sophomore Kody Chandler T32nd (90-91, 181); freshman Enoch Niblett T35th (94-91, 185); sophomore Eli Luckman 47th (99-101, 200); freshman Mason Aurdahl 51st (99-106, 205). The 4A/3A/2A/1A girl’s championship was also held at Trysting Tree. Crook Co. won with a two-day total of 359. Marshfield and North Bend tied for seventh at 398. The medalist was Esha Reddy a junior at Marist Catholic, Eugene, (70-70). Bandon’s boys finished fourth at the 3A/2A/1A championships at Tokatee Golf Course, Blue River.

Marshfield will have a bye from the “Play-In” round of the upcoming OSAA 4A State Softball playoffs following the end of the regular season. The Lady Pirates as league champs will wait to play a first round game. North Bend, as the second place team from District 4, will host a “Play-In” game against Seaside.

Marshfield will host Glide in a non-league prep softball game Wednesday, 5 p.m., Coos Head Field, Coos Bay. North Bend will host Taft, 2:30 p.m., at the Oak St. Park Field.
