North Bend’s Raegan Farm took second at the 4A/3A/2A/1A OSAA Girl’s State Tennis Singles Championship Saturday at Oregon State University, Corvallis. Farm fell to Patricia Dougherty, Klamath Union, in the finals, 6-3, 7-6. The freshman opened the state tournament on Friday with two wins, 6-0, 6-0 over Sydney Liao, Scappoose, then 6-1, 6-0 over Juhree Kizziar, Sisters, in the quarter-finals. On Saturday in the semi-final round, Farm beat Bailey Bell, Philomath, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to the finals against Dougherty. Farm had beaten Dougherty earlier in the year 2-1.

Cottage Grove’s boys and Junction City’s girls won the 2023 4A District 4 Track & Field Championships at North Bend’s Frank Shriver Track Saturday. The Lion boys compiled 185.5-points to Marshfield’s 182.5. North Bend was third with 114.5, followed by Junction City 92.5 and Marist Catholic 71. Junction City tallied 184.5-points to win the girl’s league championship. North Bend was second with 146, followed by Marist Catholic 135, Cottage Grove 98 and Marshfield 66.5. Cottage Grove won the Coed Championship. North Bend’s baseball team lost a “Play-In” playoff game at home Friday, 4-3, to visiting Seaside. The Bulldogs finish 12-10. Also, from 4A District 4, Junction City won it’s “Play-In” game over visiting Tillamook 11-8 Friday. The Tigers join league champion Marist Catholic in the OSAA playoffs first round Tuesday.

Visiting Seaside ended North Bend’s prep softball season with a 13-11 “Play-In” playoff win at the Oak Street Park Fields Friday. The Bulldogs finish with a 13-11 record. Two other 4A District 4 league teams also fell on Friday, Junction City lost at Crook Co. 18-7 (5) and Cottage Grove lost at Cascade 14-3 (6). Marist Catholic advanced to the OSAA First Round with a 9-6 win, Thursday over visiting Newport at Eugene. League champion Marshfield had a bye from the “Play-In” round and will open the playoffs Tuesday at home. The Lady Pirates (19-7) had a tune-up game Thursday at SWOCC against 2A North Douglas. The top-ranked, unbeaten Warriors (24-0) won 7-1. Marshfield will open the OSAA 4A playoffs at home on Tuesday, 4 p.m., against Astoria (18-6) from the Cowapa League.
