OSAA Voice/Speech & Debate State Championships
At the OSAA State Solo Music Championships, Mountainside HS, Beaverton, North Bend’s Caylee Renard placed third in Alto Voice. At the OSAA Speech and Debate State Championships at Western Oregon University, Monmouth, Bandon was second to St. Mary’s of Medford, while Marshfield was third and North Bend ninth.

Marshfield’s softball team beat visiting Cottage Grove 12-1 (5) at the Coos Head Field, Coos Bay, Tuesday. The Lady Pirates (7-2, 15-5) step out of District 4 League play Thursday to play at 3A Glide. North Bend beat Junction City Tuesday, 16-5 (5). The Bulldogs (7-1, 10-8) play at Cottage Grove on Friday.

North Bend’s baseball team fell at Junction City 8-3 Tuesday in a District 4 league game. The Bulldogs (5-3, 9-7) are at Cottage Grove Friday. Marshfield beat visiting Cottage Grove 4-3 at Coos Bay Tuesday. The Pirates (1-7, 6-12) will play at Marist Catholic Tuesday.

At a District 4 JV track meet at North Bend Tuesday, Marshfield sophomore Bodey Lutes stepped down to the 200 meters and won in 22.59 to North Bend’s Jason Padgett in 22.96 (second fastest among 4A athletes in the State). Padgett won the 100 (11.30) and Lutes won the 400 (51.32). North Bend’s Keegan Young took the Javelin (161-5), while Marshfield swept the High Jump with Jack Waddington winning at 6-0, followed by Danner Wilkson (5-8) and Mekhi Johnson (5-8). Waddington also won the Pole Vault (14-0), while North Bend’s Brody Justice was second (14-0). The Long Jump went to the Pirates Qwentyn Petty (20-2.75), with the Bulldogs’ Justice second (19-2.75). On the girl’s side, North Bend freshman Lauren Efraimson won the 400 (1:04.45), while another Bulldog freshman, Ellie Massey, won the 800 (2:34.58) and Cassie Kennon took the 3000 (13:06.24). North Bend junior Lennon Riddle won the 300H (52.04). Marshfield’s Daphne Scriven swept the Shot Put (33-8.5) and Discus (122-9). The Pirates Kate Miles won the Javelin (117-8) third best mark among 4A athletes in the State, while Alie Clark took the Long Jump (14-11.75). North Bend’s Roxy Day (31-8) led a one-two Bulldog finish in the Triple Jump with Riddle taking second (30-6.25). Both North Bend and Marshfield will next compete at the 73rd Annual Grants Pass Rotary Meet, Saturday at Southern Oregon.
