Marshfield’s baseball team dropped to third-place in the 4A District 4 league race with a 5-4 (8) loss Tuesday to first-place Marist Catholic (8-0, 12-5) at Coos Bay. The Pirates (7-3, 11-8) are scheduled to host fourth-place Elmira (4-6, 9-10) on Friday. Junction City (7-2, 12-6) moved into second place with a 10-1 win over Siuslaw (1-7, 6-12). Marist Catholic plays at Junction City Wednesday. North Bend was swept by Willamette 10-0 & 11-0 in a 5A Midwestern League doubleheader in Eugene Tuesday. The Bulldogs (1-9, 7-11) are scheduled to host No. Eugene on Friday.

Marshfield’s softball team fell 2-0 to top-ranked Marist Catholic Tuesday at the ESD Field in Coos Bay. The Lady Pirates (5-3, 9-9) are in second place to the Spartans (9-0, 16-1) in the 4A District 4 league race. Marshfield has a makeup doubleheader at Cottage Grove Wednesday, 3 & 5 p.m. North Bend’s softball team dropped two 5A Midwestern League games at Willamette in Eugene Wednesday 10-3 & 5-3. Marshfield’s track team hosted its final home meet of the 2022 prep season Tuesday on Prefontaine Track, Coos Bay. Senior Bailey Wallack won both the 100 (13.69) & 200 (28.64) to highlight the Pirate girls on the track. Senior Charlie Dea took the 300H (50.78), and the team of Wallack, Dea, Alyrian Covey & Ava Thomas won the 4X400 Relay (4:28.01). Sophomore Daphne Scriven swept the Shot Put (31-10.75) & Discus (111-9). Junior Kate Miles won the Javelin (104-5), freshman Keira Crawford the High Jump (4-8), freshman Alie Clarke the Triple Jump (30-1.25). On the boy’s side, freshman Chase Johnston won the 400 (55.27), junior Jack Waddington the High Jump (5-8) & Triple Jump (39-1.5), and sophomore Jonathon Parks the Pole Vault (14-6). Some of Marshfield’s athletes will compete in the Bulldogs Last Chance Meet at North Bend Wednesday, May 4.
