Prep Choir Championships
North Bend took third place (288) at the 4A OSAA State Choir Championships held at the La Sell Center on the campus of Oregon State University, Corvallis, Saturday. La Grande (305) took first-place, followed by St. Helens (291) and Scappoose (272) fourth.

League leader North Bend swept a 4A District 4 softball doubleheader at Cottage Grove Friday 11-1 & 18-5. The Bulldogs (9-1, 12-8) end the regular season with a doubleheader at second-place Marshfield (7-2, 15-6) Friday, May 12th. Junction City and third-place Marist Catholic split their doubleheader at Eugene Friday. The Tigers (1-10, 8-15) won the opener 22-14, but the Spartans (4-5, 10-10) took the second game 16-5. Marshfield had the bye. The Lady Pirates play at Marist Catholic Tuesday and then host North Bend Friday.

North Bend swept a 4A District 4 baseball doubleheader at Cottage Grove Friday 8-3 & 7-5 (5). The second-place Bulldogs (7-3, 11-7) have a non-league game at Taft (Lincoln City) Monday and then end the regular season at Marshfield Friday, May 12th. First-place Marist Catholic (7-1, 16-3) swept third-place Junction City (6-5, 10-9) 6-3 & 13-1 at JC. Marshfield (1-7, 6-12) had the bye and will play at Marist Catholic Tuesday before hosting North Bend Friday.

Marshfield’s Bodey Lutes ran to first-place in the 400 meters (49.61) at the 73rd Grants Pass/Rotary Invitational Track & Field Meet Saturday in Southern Oregon. His time was also the fastest in the State among 4A runners this season. Also taking firsts were the North Bend boy’s 4X100 Relay Team (Nathaniel Folsom, Andrew Efraimson, Brody Justice, Jason Padgett) in 43.81, and the Bulldogs Brody Justice in the Pole Vault (14-0). On the girl’s side, Marshfield’s Kate Miles threw a personal best 124-1.5 to win the Javelin (2nd best among 4A girls this season), while North Bend’s Abby Woodruff won the Pole Vault (11-0 with the best mark among 4A girls this season. Several Bay Area athletes were also runners-ups or placed third: North Bend’s Keegan Young 2nd in the Javelin (167-10); Marshfield’s Daphne Scriven 2nd in the Discus (118-3); Marshfield’s Qwentyn Petty 3rd in the 400 (51.11); and, North Bend’s Jason Padgett 2nd in both the 200 (23.35) & 100 (11.28). In the boy’s 16-team race, North Bend was sixth (49) & Marshfield ninth (40.5). Grants Pass won with 138.5. Grants Pass also won the girl’s 25-team race with 120.5-points, Marshfield sixth (35) and North Bend 14th (18). Next competition for Marshfield and North Bend is a District 4 JV meet at Marist Catholic, Eugene, Tuesday, May 9.
