Marshfield beat Junction City 3-2 to claim second place in the 4A District 4 volleyball race Thursday night at JC. The Pirates (11-6) will now host Gladstone (8-8) in a Play-In Round on or before Oct. 26 in order to qualify for Round 1 of the OSAA 4A Playoffs. North Bend won at No. Eugene 3-0 Thursday in a 5A Midwestern League match. The Bulldogs (14-1, 19-1) are in second place, half-a-game behind Churchill, with one match remaining in the regular season Saturday at home to Springfield.

Marshfield hosts No. Eugene in a 4A District 4 football game at Pete Susick Stadium, Coos Bay, Friday, 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on FM 105.1, KMHS and streamed at www.kmhsonline.com. North Bend will play at Eagle Point Friday, 7 p.m., in a 5A Midwestern League game broadcast on FM 98.7 K-Light Radio.

North Bend’s cross-country teams ran at the Umpqua Invite at Stewart Park in Roseburg Wednesday. Junior Aidin Wilson led the boys in 36th (18:00.10), junior Gavin Schmidt was 37th (18:03.20), followed by junior Nathaniel Folsom 60th (18:47.10), junior Benjamin Swank 66th (18:57.10) and sophomore Tiago Schrader 76th (19:19.10). The Bulldogs were 10th out of 15 teams with 238-points. Sheldon won with 29-points. Oregon City won the girls’ team race with 54-points. North Bend was sixth with 181. Junior Sara Slade 24th (21:10.60), freshman Emma Slade 30th (21:34.70), sophomore Abby Woodruff 50th (22:42.30), freshman Clara Messner 58th (23:21.30), and Maryman Qadir 60th (23:30.40). The Bulldogs next run at the 5A Midwestern League Championships Wednesday, Oct. 27, Valley of the Rogue State Park in Southern Oregon.
