More on Alex Garcia Silver’s Win
Garcia Silver’s Coach Steve Delgado commented on his race Saturday, “Alex took down some of the top runners in the West on Saturday in the Elite boys 5k race at the Nike Portland XC Festival. At 1000 meters to go he worked to close a small gap on the leader and passed him with 500 meters to go in an impressive surge that he held all the way to the line for the victory. His time of 14:55 is his second sub 15 performance in the last two weeks after knocking 1:03 off the Prefontaine 5k course record last week. His performances are gaining attention from media and college coaches as he looks ahead to defending his State title and the National Championship season. Alex’s next event will be Thursday October 13th at the Crater Twilight 5k run under the lights at Crater HS. The Crater program is one of the top in the nation. Alex hopes the fast field will help him run a Colombian U18 5k National record.
