In a match up of the Bay Area’s two prep volleyball teams Marshfield downed North Bend 3-1 at North Bend (25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 25-17) Thursday. The Pirates (4-0, 12-2) are in first place at the half-way point of the District 4 league season. North Bend (2-2, 8-6) is in third, while Marist Catholic better Cottage Grove 3-0 Thursday and is in second place (3-1, 7-3). Marshfield opens the second-half of the season Tuesday at Junction City (0-4, 2-11), and North Bend will host Marist Catholic Tuesday.

Marshfield hosts Junction City in a prep football game at Pete Susick Stadium, Coos Bay, Friday, 7p. The game is the Pirates’ Homecoming. North Bend will host Klamath Union in a Big Sky Conference game at Vic Adams Field, Friday, 7p. The game is the Miss Flame Game in conjunction with the North Bend Fire Dept.
Prep FB Polls
Marshfield is holding down the No. 10 spot in the weekly OSAA/Coach’s 4A Prep Football Poll. The Pirates (3-1) trail No. 1 Mazama (4-0), No. 2 Estacada (3-1), No. 3 Henley (4-0), No. 4 Pendleton/Nixyaawii (3-1), & No. 5 Marist Catholic (3-1). Both Mazama and Henley are in the same Big Sky Conference as Marshfield. Despite being 3-1, Coquille dropped out of the 3A Poll.
Prep xc
North Bend is scheduled to run at the Woahink Lake XC Invite at East Woahink Lake, Honeyman State Park, south of Florence on Saturday, Oct. 1. The meet is hosted by Siuslaw. Marshfield has the weekend off.
