Football lights were back on in Oregon’s Bay Area Friday night as both Marshfield and North Bend hosted opponents to open the 2022 prep season. At Pete Susick Stadium in Coos Bay, the Pirates battled Tillamook to a 15-14 win, while at Vic Adams Field, Crater downed the Bulldogs 52-0. Marshfield (1-0) is at Cascade Friday, while North Bend (0-1) is at Willamette in Eugene.

Marshfield’s girls beat visiting Klamath Union 1-0 in a prep soccer match at Coos Bay Friday. The Lady Pirates (2-0) are scheduled to play Henley at Phoenix on Wednesday, Sept. 7. Marshfield’s boys lost to Klamath Union 2-1 Friday at NBHS. The Pirates (0-1) are scheduled to play Henley at Phoenix on Wednesday, Sept. 7. North Bend’s boys tied KU 2-2 Saturday. The Bulldogs (0-1-1) are scheduled to host Newport on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Marshfield’s cross-country team opened the 2022 prep season with a 3,000 meter run on the Millicoma Trails in Eastside Friday. The Pirates’ Alexander Garcia-Silver ran the fastest time (8:49.65). Freshman Riley Mullanix had the top MHS girl’s time (13:17.05) in finishing third. Marshfield next runs at the Ash Creek XC Festival at Monmouth Sept. 10. North Bend ran at the Creswell Opening 3K on Wednesday. Aidin Wilson led the Bulldogs boys finishing ninth (11:26), while Sara Slade was also ninth (13:20) for the girls. North Bend next runs at the Marist Invite in Eugene, Sept. 10.
