District 4 league play began for both Marshfield and North Bend’s volleyball teams Thursday. Marshfield went on the road and bettered Junction City 3-0, while North Bend was at home and lost a close battle with visiting Marist Catholic 3-1. Marshfield (1-0, 11-2) will host Cottage Grove on Monday, Sept. 18, 6:30 p.m., while North Bend (0-1, 6-2) will host Junction City on Monday, 6:30 p.m. In 3A: visiting Creswell won at Siuslaw 3-0; Coquille won 3-1 at Sutherlin; no score Brookings-Harbor at Douglas. In 2A: Gold Beach beat visiting Reedsport 3-0; no score Bandon at Waldport. In 1A: Mrytle Pt. won at Days Creek, 3-2; Powers beat visiting Riddle 3-1.

In boy’s prep soccer: Marshfield (1-3) beat visiting Cascade 8-0 Thursday at Pete Susick Stadium. 3A/2A/1A – Pacific/Bandon won at Gold Beach 9-3. In girls’ soccer: Marshfield (1-4) lost at home to visiting Cascade 4-2. 3A/2A/1A: Siuslaw lost at Elmira 3-2. Sutherlin beat visiting Brookings-Harbor 1-0.

It’s the Bay Area Rivalry Football Game for 2023 at Vic Adams Field, North Bend, Friday night, 7 p.m. as Marshfield travels to play the Bulldogs in a 4A Special District 4 League opener for both schools. In 3A, La Pine at Siuslaw, Brookings-Harbor at Cascade Christian, and North Valley at Coquille. In 2A, Glide at Gold Beach, Reedsport at Oakland, and Bandon/Pacific at North Douglas/Yoncalla. In 1A8, Bonanza at Myrtle Pt. and in 1A6, Powers at Prospect Charter/Butte Valley.
