Prep vb, Aug. 31

Both Marshfield and North Bend opened the 2016 prep volleyball season with wins Tuesday on the road. The Pirates traveled to Junction City to take on the Tigers first, and won 3-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-16, 27-25), before beating Gladstone, also at JC, 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-17). Stats provided my MHS show sophomore Mallory Heyer led Marshfield in Kills with 10 against the Tigers. Senior Shaylynn Jensen had 26 Assists. Against the Gladiators, Heyer had nine Kills and senior Kelsey Jackson recorded seven. Jensen with 25 Assists. The Lady Pirates (2-0) host Coquille, 6:30 p.m., in a varsity match Wednesday night, Aug. 31, at the Pirate Palace. A JV match will precede the varsity match. North Bend traveled to Cottage Grove for a three-way. The Bulldogs blanked North Valley 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-17) in their first match, but lost to the host Lions 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-21) in the second match. No other stats were available. North Bend (1-1) hosts Elmira on Thursday.
