Marshfield swept its home opener for the 2018 prep 4A volleyball season in straight sets over visiting North Valley & Creswell Tuesday night in the Pirate Palace at Coos Bay. The Lady Pirates remain perfect on the young season in wins (9-0) and sets won (17-0). Marshfield dispensed with North Valley of the Skyline Conference in the first match 25-19, 25-23, 25-20, and then avenged last year’s 3-0 loss at Creswell by sweeping the 3A Bulldogs 25-5, 25-13, 25-19. The Lady Pirates next play at Hidden Valley (2-2), south of Grants Pass Saturday, as well as Banks (2-2). North Bend got swept at Ashland 25-12, 25-20, 25-23 in 5A Midwestern League play. The Bulldogs (0-6, 0-7) play at Thurston on Thursday.
